ABOUT

JR TAYLOR

J.R. Taylor grew up knowing that the arts were his calling. While other kids played in the sand box, J.R. devoured classic movies ranging from "Stormy Weather," and "Daddy Long Legs," to his all-time favorite, “The Wiz."

The Los Angeles, CA native began appearing in countless videos during his college years and shared the stage with the hottest artists in the music industry: Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Missy Elliot, Chris Brown and others.  J.R. also made appearances in popular movies such as “Dreamgirls,” “SoulMan,” and "Beauty Shop.”  J.R. became a highly sought dancer and a socialite. He formed relationships with accomplished artists and became well-known on the scene.

J.R.’s transition into the world of choreography was seamless after his immense experience as a dancer. He began teaching at the world-famous Millennium Dance Complex and Debbie Reynolds Legacy Studios in 2006 where he still teaches regularly. Taylor’s classes were large and often sold out; not only did he naturally attract students, but his unique and fresh style gained him even broader recognition through multiple spaces of the industry. He earned the opportunity to start choreographing for some of the world’s biggest artists. From Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Queen Latifah, to Trey Songz, and Nelly, J.R. continued his influence in the entertainment world. In 2009, he added Artistic/Creative Director to his title by working with Jamie Foxx on his “Blame It Tour.”

In 2011, J.R. was responsible for all things Jennifer Lopez.  As JLo’s head choreographer, J.R. created the vision for her stage shows, commercials, music videos, and choreographed Lopez’s first record-breaking world tour, “Dance Again.”  Taylor has been nominated for two MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography; once in 2012 for Jennifer’s “Dance Again” and again in 2013 for “Live It Up.”  Working with JLo afforded Taylor the opportunity to produce and write a song for her most recent “AKA” album.

J.R. has gone on to Creative Direct & Choreograph more tours for artist such as Monica, Nelly, Natalie Larose, Tamar Braxton and most recently, the legendary girl group XSCAPE.
